i)        Meeting began with Foerstner getting the votes to be considered a delegate. He was subsequently sworn in.

ii)       Held memorial service for the 97 workers that died on the job this past year

iii)     Sylvia Woods Spoke on the Young Workers Conference held recently in Washington DC.

iv)     Debbie Black United Way Labor Liaison spoke on Community service, and that Federal Energy Assistance is available in Knox Co. until June 30th.

v)      United Way has an upcoming Labor Luncheon for Union Leaders to learn more about the United Way

vi)     Debbie Black also spoke on Union Plus, which are benefits for union workers. www.unionplus.org

(1)   Discounts on everything from cell phones and cell phone plans to home loans and movie tickets. Even has union discounts on elderly care

(2)   Also lists some items that are union made such as clothing and vehicles.

vii)    David Woods won the George Meany Award for Boy Scout service

viii)  USA Union Sportsman Alliance is in some ways like the NRA but has a labor friendly agenda. Membership for the USA was pushed for those interested.

ix)     Also pushed were Knoxville/ Oak Ridge AFL-CIO’s Project Help, which is taking donations to go toward people who are having hard times, and are above the guidelines for other assistance programs. Its focus is to help with utility bills and things of that nature.

x)      I also received information on what is fact and fiction on Healthcare Reform which also has a list of benefits for seniors and when those go into effect

b)      Reminder elections for the Local’s Officer will be held in the summer of 2011. Dates for nominations will be announced at a later time. Election officials will also be nominated soon to start preparing.
